Financial Performance Evaluation Reports

80% of small businesses fail within the first five years of operation. 90% of these failures are as a result of mismanagement. Entrepreneurs typically get into business for themselves for the passion of what they do, and the financial details often fall between the cracks.

But running a business successfully is more about management than production, and financial management is mission critical. And the majority of micro, small and even medium sized business owners don't, or don't know how to, effectively interpret their financial statements.

A company's financial information is literally worth gold. Yet most small businesses only take a cursory look at their statements, sometimes only once a year or less. And often, even accountants only spend a limited amount of time interpreting what the statements say about the business and how the results compare to prior periods or industry averages.

MCS offers a range of financial performance evaluation reports based on your financial statements, whether prepared internally or by your accountant. Our reports include charts, ratios, industry comparisons and all of them written in a clear format that doesn't require an accounting degree to understand. We show you the numbers, we show you what they mean and we make written suggestions on where you can or need to improve.

The Reports

All our reports discuss (and explain) liquidity, profitability, sales, debt, assets and employees and rate your business in each category as they relate to your business.

MCS Performance Report — Micro
This is our most basic report designed for very simple businesses in their beginning stages. The report is approximately 5 pages long including narrative, a summary of raw financial statement data and a limited number of basic comparative charts.

MCS Performance Report — Mixed Industry
The Mixed Industry is designed for companies operating across different industries where comparisons to individual industry averages are not meaningful. The report is approximately 7 pages long including narrative, raw financial statement data comparative charts and assorted financial indicators and ratios across the categories comparing current and prior periods but without industry comparisons.

MCS Performance Report — Business Edition
The MCS Business Edition is our most comprehensive report. The report is approximately 11 pages long and includes a more comprehensive narrative, category specific charts, raw financial statement data, common size statements and assorted financial indicators and ratios comparing current period results with prior period and industry standards.

Frequency
Our reports are a powerful analysis tool that will help you to work on your business instead of just in it. But you don't just manage your business once a year, so why evaluate your company's performance just once a year? Annual evaluations often result in business owners not addressing problem areas for up to a year. Statistically, 45% of new businesses fail in the first year. Quarterly performance evaluations allow business owners to correct critical areas of concern much sooner and possibly preventing critical long term damage. For those who want to keep a tight reign on performance and efficiency, MCS also offers a monthly package with discounts of up to 66% per report.

Ask us about these or other reports including proforma projections, not-for-profit reports, public company reporting and personal finance.

Opportunity Analysis & Evaluation

As your company grows, new opportunities will present themselves. Much like when you started your business in the first place, careful planning and objective analysis go a long way to preventing potentially catastrophic results. Misam offers the experience that typically only larger companies can afford. Furthermore, as consultants, we offer an objective perspective without the compromise of an owner's emotional investment.

Process Analysis & Consulting

New and established businesses alike fall victim to the Familiar Habit Syndrome, often at the expense of efficiency, productivity and effectiveness. We look at what you do with a fresh perspective, as well as how you do it and most importantly why. Based on our analysis and experience, we will then help you to implement changes if appropriate, whether they are simple procedural changes or radical company wide reorganizations.

Business Culture Consulting

Company merger and takeover plans often underestimate the effect that each company's respective business culture can have on the overall success of the undertaking. In a survey in 1996 of 500 senior managers who had experienced a merger or acquisition, 80% said that no plans had been developed to address (corporate) cultural issues. And yet only, 30% of acquisitions fully meet expected financial results. In addition, some 50% of key executives in an acquired organization leave within the first year, and 75% leave within the first three. Consequently, the expected synergies as a result of the merger or acquisition are largely lost. Misam will help to define the respective business cultures involved, to assess the existing organizations and to identify the compromises and/or changes necessary to achieve the expected synergies through empowered and confident employees.

Change Management Consulting

Large scale or highly visible change in the workplace is often a frightening prospect for staff and management alike. Decades of downsizing and re-organization have, for many, made the word "change" practically synonymous with "layoff"; often even for senior management. And even if the possibility of layoff is eliminated, the prospect of having to learn new skills can be equally daunting. Ultimately, such fear can and will evolve into resistance and even sabotage, rendering any strategic efforts less effective. We can provide experienced guidance through the complexities of large scale or radical change so that it is perceived as a positive experience for all.

Financial Staffing Crisis Management

The typical accounting staffing crisis happens suddenly and can very quickly leave an organization crippled - three to four weeks without an accounting or bookkeeping function is often ample to develop a challenging backlog. Catching up, however, takes much longer which could leave you without the current financial data you need to make informed decisions for months. Misam can take the reins offering a range of services including controllership, bookkeeping, IT maintenance and interviewing potential accounting candidates, while you run your business.

Purchasing & Controls Consulting

When you handle all aspects of the purchasing, receiving, storage and payment functions, you implicitly have control. As your company grows, you will have to delegate one or more of these functions in order to stay focused on the more creative aspects of running your business. Where the volumes you purchase are high, there is a very significant potential for theft and shrinkage. We will develop a custom set of procedures and controls that allow you to keep track of your purchases without making it your full time occupation. We can develop similar controls for all major functions of your business.
